Whether you're a seasoned or an aspiring medical communicator, the New England Chapter of the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA) provides a host of opportunities to advance your career and connect with a community of friendly and talented professionals. We’re an active chapter, offering several dinner meetings between September and June as well as informal networking lunches, a Sunday roundtable brunch, and a writing competition that alternates each year with a chapter conference.
Our membership numbers more than 500 medical writers and editors across the six New England states. Some of us work as freelances and others as full-time employees – for research institutions, hospitals, news rooms, medical education companies, academia, biopharmaceutical and device companies, health agencies, and government. Some write for scientists, physicians, or the FDA, while others communicate with patients, the press, or the general public.
The medical communication field is as diverse as the backgrounds of the writers and editors who work in it. At a chapter meeting, you’re as likely to encounter a former English or journalism major, as a bench scientist, health care professional, or technical writer. What we all share is a commitment to excellence in medical communication.
